A Spontanous Staycation of Art, Fun, Food, Dancing & Romance – In London!

The weekend before last was a bank holiday weekend. usually Fernando and I plan ahead for our summer bank holiday however,  this year we have been working so hard that it crept up on us  – So our “plans” to go hiking didn’t happen and instead we had to free style. It turned out a little something like this……:)

FRIDAY NIGHT 22nd August

We knew we wanted some R&R( Romance and relaxation) So  we made reservations for sunday – Monday to stay in  a 4* Hotel & Spa with the works!

SATURDAY 23rd August

Fernando surprised me at breakfast letting me know that he had the day of. This was his  first Saturday of in YEARSSS, so we decided to spend it doing somethings we have not yet done in London, this consisted of going to The National Gallery! I couldn’t belive I have never been here and some of my favorite art pieces live there.

P1080034For those of you who like me have never been to The National Gallery or have no idea what it is in a nut she The National Gallery is an art museum in Trafalgar Square in London. Founded in 1824, it houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th century to 1900 Here you can find pieces from artist such as Van Gogh , Monet, and Leonardo da vinci.download

My fav piece of the day: The Virgin of the Rocks from Panels from the S. Francesco Altarpiece, Milan

Leonardo da Vinci about 1491/2-9 and 1506- It was the first time i had seen an original piece from Leonardo, and i can see what all the fuss is about it is beautiful!!!                             FOOD TIME !!!!!

With Lunch Time fast approaching  we googled what food events were happening in the city and we discovered the he South Bank food festival was happening. South bank os a 20min walk from the gallery so it was perfect!

We ate ourselves silly!! I think im still full!

SUNDAY 24th August

AAAAhhhh time for some Relaxation and Romance. We checked into Seldon Park Hotel and Spa.

We actually was at this hotel a few weeks prior, for a wedding,  and we Promised ourselves that we would return and enjoy the facilities. We Booked massages and a spa day in advance and even made reservations for dinner. So all we had to do was enjoy! 🙂

We had a great time together even  though there was a few issues with poor customer service. We were to busy having fun to care, however, I don’t think we will return to that hotel any time soon.

MONDAY 25th August

The Monday unfortunatly rained alllll day long. After breakfast we had planed to take a walk into the 200 acre nature but with the weather made that impossible. We didn’t have to check out till so we opted to take a swim then head back to the room for more ROMANCE as  Rainy days make perfect snuggle weather.

party-hard-at-notting-hill-carnival-2014we checked out at 4pm  with no plans but to go home and pop open a bottle of presseco and watch a movie. Our friends had been insisting all day that  we join them at Notting hill Carnival -In the rain 😦 ummm NO! we were not convinced. We got home and within 10 mins we were heading out to meet our friends in the carnival in the rain hahah! we had a great time. I thought the carnival would have been a total wash out but nooooo people were having fun regardless and we grabbed a beer and joined right in …no Rain no Gain 🙂

One of my fav parts of carnival is the food!! Rice and peas chicken , Jerk chicken and  fav Curry Goat and Roti.( pictured above) just writing about it i want to eat some!…Im going to have to learn how to cook this ( i feel a post coming on :))

My Final Thought

I think the moral of this story is that spontaneity has its merits. As much as i love to be prepared I must admit we had one of the best time ever! full of fun and laughter and of course Romance! We are now more than ever looking forward to our upcoming tip to Andalusia, spain in 2 weeks time …Roll on the 15th september woop woop!
