Todays Adventure: A Jungle hike, hitch hiking and 236 steps to Wat Phra that Doi Suthep

and we are off to find the trail 🙂

man oh man we killed it today on a self guided hike through jungle and up the Doi Suphet mountain – Wat Phra that Doi Suthep Bound – A sacred Temple in the mountain 15 kilometers from Chiang Mai and around 1,060 m up the mountain.

After a few wrong turns and a 20 min walk we find the start of the trail ( above)20150502_105337

25 mins along the trail is where we happened upon our first stop along the way – An amazing temple in the middle of the jungle called Wat Palad Temple. It just simply appears out of nowhere. this extremely peaceful slice of  heaven also boost’s great views over the city below.

these words of wisdom are dotted all over the site

we leave the holy grounds and proceed to the steepest part of the hike ( soz  no pictures i need both hands) Now totally sweating balls & nightfall fast approaching we realised that we would not be able to complete te trial. I could hear the jungle coming alive around us and that’s when i knew it was time to bounce! We reached the main road and with no other option we had to hitch hike to our final destination Doi Suthep Temple – and that we did . A lovely thai couple ( pictured below) also on holiday were kind enough to stop and happened to be going to the same place.

7K later we had arrived!  with only 236 steps to go before completing our journey.

We finally arrive at Wat Phra that Doi Suthep 🙂 YAY!!!!!

Man was it worth all the sweat and effort to reach this temple, as we caught our breath and relaxed we took in the beautiful  views over looking Chiang Mai below.

This was the perfect last day in Chiang Mai!
